Super activated carbon (SAC)

New Materials

Super activated carbon(SAC) is a porous carbon with ultra-high specific surface area(> 1500 m2/g) and extended porosity, which is able to effectively store and adsorb charges. It is mainly used in water treatment processes, environmental protection, catalyst support, solvent recovery, decolorization, biomedical engineering, metal recovery, water purification, energy storage and catalyst, desalination, supercapacitors, electrode, gas storage and other fields.

The project solves the technical problem of continuous production of super activated carbon(SAC) by using asphalt coke(AC) and petroleum coke(PC) as raw materials and applying an innovative activation process. By adjusting the preparation parameters, the morphology and porous structure of the activated carbon can be regulated. Super activated carbon with specific surface area (1500~3300m2/g), pore volume (0.6~1.7cm3/g) and average pore size (1.6~2.2nm) can be prepared and customized according to the requirements of various downstream users.

A production line with a capacity of 100 tons was built, which is to be expanded to 1,000 tons/year and is capable of producing ultra-high specific surface area activated carbon with a specific surface area of over 2,000 m2/g on a large scale.
